"The AJS was established in 1996 with a five-year mandate to: help Aboriginal people assume greater responsibility for the administration of justice in their communities; promote the inclusion of Aboriginal values within the Canadian justice system; and contribute to a reduction in rates of crime, victimization and incarceration among Aboriginal people. After a promising beginning, the AJS was renewed in August 2001 for a second five-year term (2002-03 to 2006-07). This report highlights key activities undertaken in the first three fiscal years of the AJS’s second mandate to meet its objectives."--Page [3].
