Résumé

"Over the last decade there has been a shift in the way police agencies in British Columbia deliver service to the public. This trend has prompted the centralization of certain individual police functions, into regional integrated policing units. The Central Saanich Police Service (CSPS) has continued this trend by contracting out its police dispatch service to the RCMP's Victoria Operations Communication Centre (VOCC). This report describes how interested parties might collaborate to examine and improve the new service. Using face-to-face and telephone interviews, eighteen participants including police officers, dispatchers and members of the public were spoken to. The analysis of the interviews resulted in common themes with a primary focus on communication and relationship building. Seven recommendations, based upon these themes, are proposed to strengthen the relationships between CSPS and VOCC and benefit the public. The emphasis of the recommendations is to improve the organizational culture between CSPS and VOCC."--Abstract.
