Résumé
In 2007, the federal government introduced the National Anti-Drug Strategy (Strategy) to provide a focused approach to reducing the demand for and supply of illicit drugs, as well as addressing the crime associated with illegal drugs, leading to safer and healthier communities. Consequently, the federal Strategy announced the Drug Treatment Funding Program (DTFP) to make improvements to substance use treatment systems (re-oriented funding from Health Canada’s Alcohol and Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Program, effective April 2008), and provide new five-year time-limited funding (2007-2011) to assist provincial and territorial governments in addressing critical treatment needs. The DTFP enables Health Canada to fulfill its policy mandated leadership and coordination role in relation to preventing and treating substance abuse.
