Video from Minister Goodale on the Gun and Gang Violence Summit
Transcript
Hello this is Ralph Goodale, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety
As Canadians, we are fortunate to live in one of the safest countries in the world.
Crime rates in Canada are much lower today than decades ago.
But over the past few years, homicides, gun crime and gang activity have all steadily increased.
That's why, last November, I announced that the federal government is investing $327.6 million over five years,
and then $100 million a year thereafter, to help the fight illegal guns and gangs in Canada.
On March 7, I'm bringing our partners together to Ottawa for a Summit on Gun and Gang Violence.
Provincial governments, municipalities, academics, law enforcement and community groups will all join federal officials to examine what we can do together to fight this scourge in the most effective way.
Because nothing is more important than protecting the safety and security of our communities.
