NCPS objectives
The National Crime Prevention Strategy (NCPS) is the policy framework for the implementation of crime prevention interventions in Canada for children, youth and young adults ages 6-30. The NCPS provides funding through key Crime Prevention Funding Programs to:
- Address known risk and protective factors associated with crime among vulnerable groups of the population;
- Respond to priority crime issues or local, targeted and tailored youth violence and youth gang prevention initiatives; and/or
- Increase knowledge about what works in crime prevention.
The 2024 NCPS Call for Applications will result in initiatives funded under the Crime Prevention Action Fund (CPAF), the Northern and Indigenous Crime Prevention Fund (NICPF) and the Youth Gang Prevention Fund (YGPF):
- CPAF: Supports evidence-based initiatives for vulnerable groups, focusing on youth and chronic offenders.
- NICPF: Promotes culturally sensitive crime prevention in Indigenous and northern communities, including capacity building and knowledge sharing.
- YGPF: Helps prevent youth gang involvement, offers exit strategies for gang members, and supports reintegration.
