Parliamentary Committee Notes: Overview Note Appearance Before the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights (JUST) Canada’s Bail System

You have been invited to appear to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights (JUST) for their study on Canada’s Bail System for the first hour of the meeting. You will be supported by the following officials:
- Talal Dakalbab, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Crime Prevention Branch, Public Safety Canada
- RCMP (TBC)
- Matthew Taylor, Director and General Counsel, Criminal law Policy Sector, Justice Canada
Opening Remarks
At the beginning of the meeting, the Chair will invite you to deliver opening remarks. These should last approximately five minutes and will be followed by questions from committee members.
Rounds of Questions
- First round: Six minutes for the first questioner of each party as follows: Conservative Party, Liberal Party, Bloc Québécois and New Democratic Party.
- Second round: Conservative Party, five minutes, Liberal Party, five minutes, Bloc Québécois, two and a half minutes, New Democratic Party, two and a half minutes.
- Subsequent rounds: five minutes each party depending on time. The Chair may adjust to give equal opportunity to intervene.
Second Hour
Officials will remain for the second hour of the meeting to respond to additional questions by the Committee.
