VFS Global Issue
Date: March 23, 2021
Classification: Unclassified
Fully releasable (ATIP)? Yes
Proposed Response:
- I want to make it abundantly clear that we are soberly aware of the risks of operating in any foreign environment.
- That is why we have a rigorous procurement process, led by PSPC, for our visa application centres abroad.
- Since we first entered into a contractual arrangement with VFS in 2008, and on-going up until the present day, there have been, and will continue to be, consultations across various departments and agencies to ensure government security protocols are in place and being adhered to
- These security protocols ensure that all personnel and systems used in our VACs are screened to protect the integrity our immigration system.
- We regularly carry out audits and inspections for compliance, the most recent one being in December 2020, and it is my information that there have been no breaches in privacy to date. Were specific issues around an application to be raised we would want to be aware so that we could act on them in all haste.
If Pressed on Personnel Screening
- All VAC employees are vetted to Reliability Screening level.
- All sub-contractors employees vetted to Reliability Screening Level.
- This is the same standard used for Locally Engaged staff performing similar functions in our embassies and consular general offices.
- Any personnel not screened must be accompanied at all times in the VAC by someone who is security
