Issue:
The Correctional Service of Canada is seeking additional funding to support continued operations.
Proposed Response:
- The effect of the 2020-2021 Supplementary Estimates (B) will be a net total increase of $154.2 million to the Correctional Service of Canada’s authorities.
The proposed increase is attributable to:
- An increase of $121.7 million for operating funding to support operations.
- The break down of the $121.7 million operating funding includes: $38.0 million for Collective Bargaining; $65.8 million for Workers Compensation Expenditures; $15.4 million for Legal Service Expenditures; and $2.5 million to address the Opioid Crisis.
- The Correctional Service of Canada is also requesting $23.6 million of statutory funding related to Budget 2020.
- Lastly, the Service is requesting $8.8 million in funding for quasi-statutory funding related to changes in prices and volume of goods and services being procured.

- Statutory Appropriations
Employee Benefit Program $23.6 million - An increase of $23.6 million in statutory authorities related to the department’s allocation of the employer’s share of the Employee Benefit Program.
Goods and Services $8.8 million - An increase of $8.8 million in funding for quasi-statutory funding related to changes in prices and volume of goods and services being procured. This funding will assist with cost of living on essential services provided to offenders for statutory items like procurement of food, medical expenditures, utility increases, and beds in community housing units.
