Core Technical Investigative Capabilities
Classification: Unclassified
Branch/Agency: CSIS
Proposed Response:
- The Canadian Security Intelligence Service's mandate is to protect Canadians from threats to national security at home and abroad.
- The threat environment today is increasingly complex, diverse and global. A modern intelligence service must be equipped with expert personnel and tools capable of working both in the digital and physical worlds. A highly-skilled and experienced work force is essential to success.
- Note that as part of the Supplementary Estimates (B), CSIS has received new resources that will help CSIS remain a modern intelligence service with the updated tools required to effectively fulfil its mandate in a constantly evolving technological environment.
- In 2019, a total of $7.2M in new funding was approved.
- This funding will allow CSIS to maintain core capabilities, and build resilience so it has the technical capabilities it requires to investigate threats to the security of Canada.
Background:
The 2019-2020 Supplementary Estimates (B) will result in a net increase of $12.2M or 2.0% to CSIS’ authorities.
