To date, three positions held by police officers have been converted to civilian positions:
- Police Services Reception Clerk: This individual does reception and provides administrative support to police operations (previously staffed by an officer for approximately $81,000; now held by a civilian for approximately $34,000).
- Administration Services Manager: This individual provides administrative support to police operations (previously staffed by an officer for approximately $100,000; now held by a civilian for approximately $60,000).
- Evidence Room Clerk: This individual deals with evidence and “lost and found” items (previously staffed by an officer for approximately $81,000; now held by a civilian for approximately $48,000).
The police service is currently assessing the possibility of replacing officers working in crime prevention and criminal information analysis with civilian analysts.
As a result of the civilianization of these positions, more police officers are available for frontline duties such as patrolling and investigation. |
