Description: |
Technology-related crimes are increasingly prominent. In an effort to address these types of crimes more efficiently, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) 'J' Division in New Brunswick has led the establishment of the Tech Crime Initiative, which is an integrated technological crime unit established by pooling resources from different law enforcement agencies in the province. This initiative began as a pilot project in 2012 and gives police services in the province greater capacity to address technological crimes and deal with the proliferation of technological evidence. These agencies can access the unit to investigate technological crimes. To date, the Saint John Police Service and the Rothesay Regional Police Force have contributed one member each via secondment to the unit to train technological crime analysts and staff the unit. The RCMP is currently in discussions with a number of other police services in the province that may join this initiative. |
