CAF plans to deploy resources to five long term care facilities (LTCF) in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas, including trained medical and associated support staff. Training preparations for upcoming deployment into LTCF is complete. This request is ongoing, and up to 275 CAF personnel are on the task in the following LTCF: Holland Christian Homes (Brampton), Grace Manor (Brampton), Eatonville (Etobicoke), Hawthorne Place (North York), Altamont Care Community (Scarborough), and Orchard Villa (Pickering).
In the Greater Montreal Area, CAF plans to deploy resources to eight LTCF, according to priorities identified by Quebec’s Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux (MSSS). Reconnaissance assessments have been conducted to assess what is required for the logistical support of military personnel deployed in these LTCF (planning, equipment, supplies, training, etc.). This request is ongoing, and up to 1000 CAF personnel are in at least 20 LTCF as of 11 May. LTCF supported by CAF deployments include the following: CHSLD de l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne, CHSLD Denis-Benjamin-Viger, CHSLD de la Rive, CHSLD Val Des Arbres, Résidence Berthiaume-Du-Tremblay, Vigie Mont Royal, CHSLD de St-Laurent, CHSLD Auclair, CHSLD Vigi Reine-Élizabeth, Manoir-de-Verdun, Yvon Brunet, Résidence Les Floralies Lasalle, CHSLD Benjamin-Victor-Rousselot, CHSLD Éloria-Lépage, Centre de soins prolongés Grace Dart, Résidence Bellagio, CHSLD Jean-De-La-Lande, CHSLD Valeo, and CHSLD Argyle.
In Quebec, The Canadian Red Cross (CRC) has deployed teams of epidemiological control and public health experts to work within the most affected LTCF on the adoption of new protocols and the redesign of services to patients in a way that reduces the risk of infection to patients and staff. The CRC has also deployed parts of its field hospital assets to provide additional care space to those residing in the areas of Dorval, Lachine and LaSalle served by the Montréal West Island IUHSSC, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond this, the CRC is providing surge recruitment capacity. This request is ongoing, and up to 804 people have been trained and 123 people have been recruited.
