Purpose : |
Last year, Patro Laval completed a pilot project to support 125 young people, including 30 to 50 with behaviour disorders. About 15 young people with difficulties received training and were part of a “squad,” established to assist Patro facilitators in their coaching work among younger people also with behaviour disorders. In addition, young people were given the chance to acquire skills and attitudes to guide them in their adult life.
The evaluation of phase 1 of the project delighted the organization because of its success in valuing teenagers involved in the project. This second phase will enable the Patro to consolidate the experience with a view to integrating it into regular activities.
The organization wishes to continue offering special support and alternative activities to young people with behaviour disorders. A team of teenagers will be formed to lend facilitators a hand in coaching these young people. Through more sustained support (pairing squad members with young people in the group, individual valuing) and a program of alternative activities (fun activities, minor responsibilities) the project intends to help reduce acts of violence and bullying, and offer a healthier and safer atmosphere for the whole group.
In addition to the children and squad teenagers, parents will be invited to participate in certain activities. The Centre jeunesse de Québec, the Fédération québécoise des centres communautaires de loisir and the Caisse populaire du Centre-ville are active partners in the project.
