Project Venture -Youth Awareness Prevention Program will target approximately 260 First Nation youth, ages 10-18, to reduce their engagement in high-risk behaviour and involvement, in criminal activities. This crime prevention project will use the Project Venture model program, recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is an outdoors experiential youth development program designed for high-risk Aboriginal youth. This culturally designed model aims to reduce substance abuse through classroom-based problem-solving and decision-making skills.
The project will take place in four elementary and high schools in the three communities of La Ronge, Hall Lake, and Sucker River, Saskatchewan, under the management of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
