The aim of this project is to prevent the rising number of violent incidents in Uniacke Square, especially as it relates to youth. The project will contribute to this goal by mobilizing the sponsor, children and youth, schools, Halifax Regional Police in addition to an impressive and long list of community partners in an effort to increase community awareness of crime prevention strategies while promoting the good work of successful students and community residents. This will be achieved through the development and facilitation of workshops designed to address specific risk factors, such as lack of anger management and conflict resolution skills, substance abuse, abuse, family violence and bullying. This project will allow members of this struggling community take a leadership role in helping this community reduce violence and deal with a fear of crime being committed against them. In kind funding from the sponsor, and a wealth of community partners will complement CPAF funds. |
