This project will establish Alternative Suspension projects in the following cities across the country: Chilliwack, British Columbia; Edmonton, Alberta; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Moncton, New Brunswick; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and St. John’s, Newfoundland. This project will have a duration of 5 years and will undergo a multi-site external evaluation to determine the effectiveness (impacts) and cost-effectiveness of this intervention with at-risk youth.
The Alternative Suspension program has been designed as an out-of-school intervention, which establishes bonds of trust and creates a support network of groups of students and assists them in addressing suspension and/or temporary expulsion issues while supporting a consistent and strong academic focus.
