Purpose : |
The LINK project will utilize evidence-based promising practices to work with refugee youth ages 12-18 at-risk of criminal activity and gang recruitment upon their arrival in Canada. The LINK project will encompass a wide range of supports newly-arrived refugee youth need to integrate themselves successfully into Canadian society without involving themselves in gang activity.
LINK is designed as a holistic, multi-component program by providing a number of activities, including an early education/orientation program that will provide enhanced awareness of the risks of gang and drug involvement; mentorship of youth and families that will provide increased support and supervision; educational support that will provide increased support and inclusion in the school community; recreational programming that will provide better opportunities for youth to network with peers in a safe, supportive and supervised environment and referrals to outside agencies that will provide increased access to specialized services when additional support is required.
