Purpose : |
This project is based on the Youth Inclusion Program and focuses on providing appropriate interventions for youth identified as most at risk of offending within high-risk neighbourhoods. The Youth Inclusion Program is one of eleven National Crime Prevention Centre identified model and promising crime prevention programs and this project is one of several proposed projects implementing Youth Inclusion Program in British Columbia and in other provinces.
The Youth Inclusion Program aims to address local issues such as community safety and youth crime and seeks to offer a range of activities to attract young people into positive lifestyles. The objective is to reduce youth crime and anti-social behaviour in neighbourhoods by creating a safe place where youth can go to learn new skills, take part in pro-social activities with others and get help with their education and other determined needs. Positive role models help to change participants’ attitudes to education and crime.
Consistent with Youth Inclusion Program model objectives, the project will begin by establishing a neighbourhood community centre in each community where project staff will work with other service providers to address the multiple risk factors in the lives of local youth. Once youth are engaged in the project and the assessments completed, they will be provided with access to a number of services and activities.
