Purpose : |
This project will address drug and substance abuse through secondary prevention among at risk youth through a reduction.
Project TND is an effective, interactive classroom-based drug and substance abuse prevention program. It focuses on three factors that predict tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, violence-related behaviours, and other problem behaviours among youth, including motivation factors (i.e. student's attitudes, beliefs, expectations, and desires regarding drug use); skills (social, self control, and coping skills); and decision making (i.e. how to make decisions that lead to health-promoting behaviours).
Project TND targets high school youth at high risk for drug and substance abuse problems, ages 14 to 19 and is effective with male and female participants from all cultural and ethnic origins.
The activities of this project will include the delivery of 12 sessions, twice a week, which are approximately 40-50 minutes in length. These sessions encourage the development of better motivation and decision making skills that lead to a decreased use of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and hard drugs as well as a decrease in violent behaviour.
