Purpose : |
The Adventure Youth Initiative is a thirty-nine month program involving ninety youth (approx. 30 per year) who will be engaged for twelve month interventions. The interventions will consist of three main components; group building process, adventure camps and follow-up supports.
From Community Youth Network, St. John's experience, drug use and abuse is a significant issue for youth aged 13 - 17 at risk of criminal involvement, and it poses the greatest obstacle for youth to move forward. Based on research available, the adventure-based approach is a practical way to address the risk factors identified.
The project will run for three years and intake will occur three times per year. A total of nine (9) camps will occur throughout the duration of the initiative.
