Purpose : |
The issue addressed by this project is domestic violence, with a particular emphasis on preventing the victimization of women and their children. Every year, thousands of Canadian women are injured or murdered by current or previous intimate partners. The costs to society for charging abusive partners and providing treatment in the hope of stopping violent behaviour towards women are substantial. Research assessing the efficacy of a variety of law enforcement, justice and community responses to domestic violence is crucial in deterring further violence and ensuring the ongoing safety of victims and their children. |
