Purpose : |
This project will build on the success of their initial project and promote healthy relationships, youth leadership and community responsibility by providing a safe after-school and summer program for the children and youth of Mulgrave Park. The project will address the issue of youth violence and bullying by establishing an anti-violence and anti-bullying curriculum which will promote self esteem and pro-social decision making choice by children and youth. This project also will address the issues of gang-related activity and a lack of positive role models.
This project will provide the children and youth of Mulgrave Park with opportunities for learning and sharing which most of them have never been able to participate in before, ranging from cultural awareness trips to recreational activities to healthy lifestyle choices. A minimum of 100 participants will take part in the project resulting in a reduction in bullying behaviour and improved conflict resolution skills, as well as improved school attendance and performance by students. Also, there will be a reduction in vandalism and improved self-esteem. Finally, there will be enhanced parental involvement with their children and improved parental skills. The participants will be involved for a three year period.
