Purpose : |
This project responds to the need to safely reintegrate high-risk sexual offenders into the community after release.
Under this project, offenders who are subject to an s.810 Order will be managed by a team that includes police agencies, psychologists, the Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission, BC Corrections, non-profit organization outreach workers and probation officers. These teams will develop case management plans that address the risk/needs of the offenders.
Starting before release, the outreach workers will liaise with the offender to determine if he is receptive to receiving assistance. Once released they will assist with immediate needs such as housing, food, clothing, health care services and ensuring attendance at appointments. The outreach worker will make use of community services that can provide additional support to the offender.
The goal of this project is to increase offenders' pro-social attitudes and skills thus reducing the risk of recidivism. The probation officers are responsible for the supervision of court orders and they will develop the case management plan for the offender.
These plans will include means to deal with identified risk factors, physical and mental health needs and other basic essentials. Police officers will provide a broad community safety perspective and enforcement as necessary.
