Purpose : |
This project will continue work begun under an earlier funded project that operated in 2005. The earlier project successfully carried out initial mobilization of multi-sector partners around the problem of prescription drug abuse in PEI. Officials representing provincial government (Justice, Health and Social Services) and community service providers met in June 2005 at a conference which helped participants to become better informed as to the scope and extent of the problem; identify critical issues and needs; and propose a series of next steps to better address the abuse of prescription drugs within the province.
This latest phase of activity will build on the momentum created by forming a provincial advisory committee to carry forward recommendations. Multi-sector stakeholders will be engaged to assist in formulating new policies, protocols and a provincial strategy related to prescription drug abuse. The implementation of a new Pharmacy Network Program is also sought by this project.
