Purpose : The Youth Life-Skills Program will be a multi-faceted program, including one-on-one counseling, workshops, mentoring, employment counseling, tutoring, drug prevention and group discussions on such topics as self esteem and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder. Through the variety of these programs, the at-risk youth of Yellowknife will have a program designed to meet their needs, thus bringing their apparent anonymity out in the open. Through increased self-esteem and focused energy on to how to be a contributing citizen to society, the risk for involvement in crime will decrease. As part of the Youth Life-skills Program, the Yellowknife Foster Family Association will empower youth and help them to make positive choices for themselves, family and friends. Therefore, the Yellowknife Foster Family Association is partnering with an organization that has the ability to design a relevant computer program for youth at risk. These youth will be key in the development of the program and identifying the ‘issues' that the ‘players' will face when playing the game. The computer game will be marketed across Canada, starting in the schools.
