This Project will research, plan and develop policy and processes for adoption by the Nunatsiavut Government for offenders, victims, and families. It will allow key people within the Labrador Inuit Association and member communities along with relevant departments and agencies to start planning for the justice-corrections component of self-government. While the general parameters are set out in the negotiated agreement, the association still needs to put the programming in place to take over and operate justice-related programs. At the end of the project, it is anticipated that there will have a path for the justice and correction that combines views and experience of Inuit as well as meeting the needs of federal and provincial governments. LIA will pay close attention to the present situation especially with the high levels of crimes of violence |
