Purpose : |
Through an intensive multi-sector engagement process, this project will produce a comprehensive and sustainable CPSD action plan for Prince Edward Island. The plan will be built upon knowledge of factors that support comprehensive community approaches; data about key crime and socio-economic indicators for reducing crime and victimization; and strong evaluation and accountability frameworks. Further, the plan will be based on a significant and inclusive engagement process that captures grassroots perspectives on community well-being and coordinates and consults with government, community, business, and groups that are most affected. This process will include a series of focus groups to be held with representatives of priority groups and takeholders to identify their needs and interests, key issues, and ideas toward a comprehensive approach; there will be a minimum of 10 consultations with at least 8 participants at each session. The consultations will culminate in a provincial workshop with approximately 100 invited representatives. There will also be a publicity campaign associated with the process, with print and electronic ads advising citizens of the process and inviting their feedback. The process will produce two key documents: (1) a user-friendly framework for a comprehensive community approach to safer communities in PEI; and (2) a concrete action plan for a comprehensive community approach to safer communities in PEI. This exercise will link to, consolidate and incorporate a number of other provincial strategies and previous good work and research into a focused plan for a "made-in-PEI" approach to CPSD over the next 5-10 years.
