Purpose : This project will combine research and practice to investigate links among resilience, religion/politics, identity and conflict to understanding what might lead Punjabi Canadians with strong ties to their homeland to resort to violence, as well as what community capacities are for resilience against such violent extremism. The investigators will seek increased insight into which dynamics of social exclusion, intragroup conflict, personal frustration, and perceived narratives of identity denigration are important. Further, they aim to understand how challenges in adjusting to dominant narratives in Canada exacerbate frustration and social distance. Based on research with multiple generations and sectors of the Punjabi Canadian community, personal and cultural practices that foster resilience will be identified and used to inform arts-based skills-building training.
