This project will develop and apply tools to understand the process of radicalization leading to violence through the use of social media and other open sources. Specifically, the work plan is to model and develop a proof of concept system employing advanced open source methods, social media monitoring and metadata analytics for the detection and early warning of violent extremism. The project also intends to address the technical, legal, ethical, privacy and training challenges posted by leveraging social media and open sources for intelligence, security, law enforcement and criminal justice purposes.
