OTTAWA, December 19, 2013 — The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today announced appointments to the Parole Board of Canada.

“As an independent administrative tribunal, the Parole Board of Canada makes conditional release, record suspension and clemency decisions that contribute to the protection of society,” said Minister Blaney. “I congratulate these highly qualified, knowledgeable and experienced individuals.”

Appeal Division

Steven Dubreuil, of Montreal, Quebec, is appointed as a full-time member to the Appeal Division in Ottawa. He was first appointed to the Board in June 2010 as a part-time member, a position to which he was re-appointed in June 2013. Mr. Dubreuil enjoyed a 20-year career with National Defence. He has occupied various positions, including Base Operations Officer and Commanding Officer. Prior to joining the Board, he held the position of Commanding Officer of a reserve reconnaissance regiment on a part-time basis.

Ontario Region

Damian J. Parrent of Niagara Falls, Ontario, is re-appointed as a part-time member. He was first appointed to the Board in February 2011. Mr. Parrent served 34 years with the Niagara Regional Police Service, retiring in 2008 with the rank of Superintendent after occupying a number of positions with the Service. He is a former Chair of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, Alcohol and Gaming Committee and a member of the Ontario Region of the National Joint Committee of Senior Criminal Justice Officials.

Prairies Region

Gerald Gunn of St. Albert, Alberta, is re-appointed as a full-time member. He was first appointed to the Board in February 2011. Mr. Gunn was the Acting Executive Director/Chief Sheriff within the Solicitor General and Public Safety Department, Government of Alberta. From 1980 to 2008, he worked with the Edmonton Police Service, where he occupied a number of positions, including Staff Sergeant and Inspector.
