OTTAWA, March 23, 2011 — First responders will take part in simulation activities on March 24th on the grounds of the Canadian Emergency Management College at 1495 Heron Road in Ottawa as part of a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) training course. Activities will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Course participants will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment including biohazard suits and respiratory protection to practice the response skills needed to intervene in a CBRNE situation. There is no risk to the environment, the community or the public.

This intermediate level training course is designed to standardize the level of preparedness for response to CBRNE incidents, and to build skills among specialized responders such as HazMat technicians, emergency medical services personnel, forensic identification specialists and bomb technicians.

The Canadian Emergency Management College coordinates the development and delivery of CBRNE First Responder Training in collaboration with other federal organizations such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC).
