January 5, 2011 — Today the Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, welcomed the final report of the RCMP Reform Implementation Council: From Reform to Continuous Improvement: The Future of the RCMP.
"Today I am pleased to welcome the Reform Implementation Council's fifth and final report. In this report, the Council recognizes the considerable progress made since 2007 in modernizing the RCMP. I am pleased also to note the Council concluded that most of the issues identified by the Task Force on Governance and Cultural Change in the RCMP in 2007 are being effectively addressed.
Along with RCMP Commissioner William Elliott, I will carefully consider the advice of the Council to determine how best to support the RCMP in continuing its process of modernizing."
Minister Toews also commended the work of the Reform Implementation Council since being appointed by the Harper Government on March 20, 2008.
"The Reform Implementation Council's mandate is now complete and, on behalf of Commissioner Elliott and myself, I thank each of the members of the Reform Implementation Council for their contributions to the RCMP modernization process."
