Summary
"In this dissertation I examined the impact of social-cultural integration on ethnic minority group members’ attitudes towards society. More specifically, I focused on three questions: 1) What is the impact of social integration on minority group members’ trust in the police? 2) What is the impact of social-cultural integration on minority group members’ political trust? 3) What is the impact of cultural integration on minority group members’ identification with majority (sub)groups? I used data collected in Flemish Belgium from respondents of Turkish and Moroccan descent in order to explore whether and how subdimensions of social-cultural integration influence aspects of social cohesion."
"In deze doctoraatsverhandeling onderzocht ik de impact van sociaal-culturele integratie op de houding van allochtonen ten aanzien van de samenleving. Concreet focuste ik op drie onderzoeksvragen: 1) Wat is de impact van sociale integratie op het vertrouwen van allochtonen in de politie? 2) Wat is de impact van sociaal-culturele integratie op het politieke vertrouwen van allochtonen? 3) Wat is de impact van culturele integratie op de beleving van de nationale identiteit en sub-nationale identiteiten? Op basis van face-to-face interviews met Turkse en Marokkaanse allochtonen die in Vlaanderen wonen, heb ik onderzocht of en op welke manier subdimensies van sociaal-culturele integratie invloed uitoefenen op aspecten van sociale cohesive."
« Dans la présente thèse de doctorat, j’ai examiné l’impact de l’intégration socioculturelle sur l’attitude des allochtones par rapport à la société. J’ai, concrètement parlant, focalisé les trois questions suivantes: 1) Quel est l’impact de l’intégration sociale sur la confiance que les allochtones ont en la police? 2) Quel est l’impact de l’intégration socioculturelle sur la confiance politique des allochtones? 3) Quel est l’impact de l’intégration culturelle sur la manière dont est vécue l’identité nationale et les identités sub-nationales? J’ai examiné à partir d’interviews face à face avec des allochtones d’origine turque et marocaine habitant la Flandre si et de quelle façon des sub-dimensions de l’intégration socioculturelle influencent des aspects de la cohésion sociale. »
