Summary

"Essentially, the Report of the Board/Service Race Relations Joint Working Group is designed to respond to concerns raised by some individuals and groups in the community, and to underscore the longstanding positions of the Board and the Service with respect to police-race relations. It is also intended to address the important question, “Where do we go from here?” with respect to police-race relations in the City of Toronto. This report cannot purport to reflect all of the aspects of the ongoing commitment of the Board, the TPS and their members to positive community relations. It should, however, reflect the diverse and wide-ranging nature of those efforts, and address the specific issues raised by many of the groups who remain interested in the important topic of police-race relations. This report is designed both to reflect the position of the Toronto Police Services Board and the Toronto Police Service with respect to police-race relations in the City of Toronto, and to respond to the 136 issues raised since the media articles of October 2002."--Page 17.
