Purpose : |
School District No. 36 (Surrey) will deliver a two-year project that will address risk and protective factors among youth between the ages of 11 and 18 who are identified as being most at risk of gang involvement. The project will involve applying Wraparound Milwaukee, a promising approach, in order to prevent participants from becoming involved in youth gangs and related offending.
Wraparound is a comprehensive approach that focuses on delivering strength-based, individualized care for youth at risk and their families. Potential participants are assessed in terms of their level of risk and suitability for the intervention. Participants and their families are then “wrapped” in a system of care, which involves coordinating services and resources to address the risk and protective factors that are identified during the intake process. Follow-up occurs on an ongoing basis to ensure that programming continues to meet participant needs.
