Purpose : |
The Elders In School Cultural Support Program is an innovative school-based project aiming to reach approximately 250 at-risk First Nation youth, ages 9-14, and their families.
The project will address risk factors to crime including early onset of drug and alcohol use, lack of impulse control and self discipline, early aggression, family addictions and criminality, lack of educational attainment, compromised school performance and lack of connection and sense of belonging to family and community.
The Elders in School Cultural Support Program utilizes mentorship, structured activities, cultural activities, life skills and family engagement as recognized key components to effective crime reduction strategies.
