Projet Harmonie is an activity, support, education and reference centre located within a low-rent housing development in the Louis-Riel sector of Mercier-Ouest. It is a key player on the intervention and prevention scene among young people in this development, where 51% of residents are less than 25 years of age and 81% of family heads earn less than $15,000/year. In the community, the La Pépinière development is acknowledged to be a place where delinquency and street gangs are obvious.
To update its objectives, this project intends to establish common actions between various social partners and provide young people with activities aimed at preventing delinquency and making them aware of their role in society. To do this, the applicant organization plans to: exchange information with its partners, including secondary schools, neighbourhood police and youth centres, on various actual problems regarding delinquency and gangs; establish individual multidisciplinary action plans for young people at risk; arrange information nights between residents of the La Pépinière development and the neighbourhood police, and between young people and the police. The organization also plans to: refer and accompany parents, who are concerned by the delinquency or victimization of young people, to community resources; support families seeking solutions; organize socio-cultural activities with young people.
