This project will introduce a Safety Plan to the community, which focuses on encouraging positive contact between youth and seniors in order to reduce incidences of criminal activity. The Burrows Central Residents Council (BCRC) hopes that the implementation of the Safety Plan will increase safety knowledge among the general population, strengthen the relationship between youth and seniors, and increase the recreation opportunities in the neighbourhood. The Safety Plan will enable the sponsor organization to identify residents' safety concerns, share safety procedures/strategies and best practices, develop a comprehensive database of the community's assets, identify volunteers, implement safety and housing audits, and explore the potential for community revitalisation through gardens, recreational spaces, and private yards. Through this initiative, the BCRC hopes that residents will participate actively in their neighbourhood and hold others accountable for their actions, thereby reducing crime. |
