This project consists of experimenting with a specific approach in Quebec. The approach is advocated by the Departmental Policy on Crime Prevention, published in November 2001. Based on pre-determined criteria (e.g., crime rates, socio-economic needs, etc.), the Quebec Department of Public Safety (MSP) plans to stimulate the development of local strategies to reduce crime and increase a sense of security.
This is an innovative and promising approach that could provide a model for other communities across Canada.
