This project will work with children who are at risk of dropping out of school and engaging in high risk behaviour. Through research and identification of the problem, it was revealed that truancy is the first indicator that a young person is giving up and losing his or her way.
Project implementation will be supported by a community liaison worker who will provide support to students at risk and their families. For younger students, the program will include incentives and special programming within the school to assist in getting them to attend school regularly and on-time. These supports will be identified through interaction and consultation with the child and family members.
For older students, the program will include special programming, assistance, tracking and relationship building as a way to get students into the school and attending. Where necessary, providing transportation, assistance and support to get children to school and to provide them with social-emotional support while in school.
