The Khmer Youth Crime Prevention Project will develop community based partnerships and strategies that will address the high rates of school drop-out among Cambodian youth, and prevent Cambodian youth in Hamilton from becoming involved in gangs or gang-related crime. The project will also include the development of a community advisory committee, with membership consisting of the Hamilton Police Service, the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, Glendale and Lake Avenue Schools, Community Action Program for Children, Riverdale Community Centre, Immigrant Culture and Art Association, Public Health and Community Services. The committee with the assistance of the Cambodian Community Outreach Worker will oversee the development of a youth mentoring program that will include an intergenerational cultural component.
