Purpose : |
This project takes place in a community with a high concentration of low-cost housing projects and a significant low-income population. The dropout rate is high and gang appeal is felt in the community. The organization benefits from a sound partnership with schools and community organizations seeking to equip young people to face an increase in gangs in their community. The project aims to implement and test a program initially designed to target young girls that aims to counter substance use and victimization problems among those growing up in a particularly unfavourable social environment. The main psychosocial elements reinforced among the young girls during the program's 16 workshops are personal identity, affirmative behaviour, solving problems and conflicts, expressing one's limits, respecting oneself and others, and the ability to seek help and get involved in a positive social network. This is to develop protection skills and teach them how to resist deviant peer pressure.
