Purpose : |
To reduce abuse and violence against elderly Franco-Ontarian women, the applicant agency will mount a three-year education and awareness campaign. Its action plan has three main components: production, education and distribution.
Initially, the agency will produce materials to raise awareness of the abuse suffered by elderly women, consisting of a video and a prevention guide. A consultant will be hired to survey existing resources and develop content for the guide. The video will run approximately 20 minutes and will offer a medium to reach illiterate women.
Secondly, it will develop a training program for champions to spread its prevention campaign across French Ontario. Ten to fifteen volunteer moderators will be trained to present and deliver the campaign to groups of elderly women. Moreover, in order to ensure that the presentations and their content meet the women's needs, the entire campaign will be refined with the help of five test groups.
Finally, the champions will in turn each offer a minimum of 5 to 7 briefing sessions. In all, 70 educational activities in 58 rural villages will reach 1,500 women 65 or older in the six regions of Cochrane-Kapuskasing-Hearst, Timiskaming-Timmins, Sudbury-Nipissing, Russell-Carleton-Stormont, Prescott-Glengarry-Cornwall and Windsor-Essex-Kent.
