Purpose : |
This project will address the high incidence of break and enters, and drug use/trafficking within the Spence neighbourhood as indicated by crime data analysis and community consultations on crime prevention priorities. A "Break and Enter - Drug Reduction Team" will be established within Spence. The Team will lead by the Spence Neighbourhood Association in collaboration with stakeholders and the project will be housed within the community. The project will combine traditional crime reduction techniques with social development approaches to address break and enters in this high-risk neighbourhood. An analysis of best practices with respect to break and enters and drug reduction will be applied to the project; this will include addressing family supports and the issue of unsupervised children/youth on the street at night. Three levels of intervention are proposed: immediate, short-term, and long-term.
