Purpose : |
This new youth cultural identity reinforcement project intends to provide 400 at-risk youth with workshops on traditional activities, language and culture as well as on healing circle teachings, and offer them awareness and information workshops related to issues of abuse and the effects of psychotropic drug use within the community. Given the extent of crime problems among Wemotaci's young people, this project also seeks to develop an outdoor educational program for children in grades 1-4 by building on their reinforcement via cultural revitalization.
The project's partners are two schools, the Maison de l'Éducation/culture, Wemotaci Public Security, the Wemotaci Health Centre, the Wemotaci Social Services Centre/CNA and the Wemotaci Atikamekw Band Council.
