Backgrounder: Cyber Security Cooperation Program
The Cyber Security Cooperation Program (CSCP), launched on February 4, 2014, was developed in support of Canada's Cyber Security Strategy as a means to improve the security of Canada's vital cyber systems outside the federal Government. The program will provide $1.5M in grants and contributions over five years in support of eligible projects.
Initiatives like the CSCP allow the Government of Canada to strengthen partnerships with the private sector that increase the resilience of Canada's vital cyber systems against a range of threats.
Funding through the CSCP is available for initiatives that would
- develop, adapt, or otherwise increase the availability and access of cyber security assessment tools and methodologies;
- explore existing standards and develop best practices;
- support research and related activities on pressing cyber security questions for which knowledge gaps exist and aim to better connect the research community with officials responsible for national security, the private sector, and the general public; and
- support other activities that contribute to improving the resiliency of vital cyber systems outside the federal Government.
The following groups are eligible for funding through the CSCP:
- owners and operators of vital cyber systems including, but not limited to, owners and operators of Canada's critical infrastructure as defined by PS;
- universities and educational institutions in Canada;
- research institutions with capacity in a relevant field in Canada;
- national, provincial, territorial, local, or professional organizations, societies, and associations which have voluntarily associated themselves for a not-for-profit purpose, and have a mandate to represent their membership or community;
- provincial, territorial, and local governments and authorities;
- non-governmental organizations in Canada, including bodies associated/affiliated with organizations of which Canada is a member, which have a mandate related to public safety;
- not for profit organizations and associations serving the private sector; and
- Canadian individual researchers and professionals deemed appropriate by the department.
