Project Concept

In order to fight crime at the border, including contraband, weapon smuggling, drug trafficking and clandestine immigration, various enforcement approaches are needed. In a spirit of co-operation and efficiency, law enforcement agencies in Québec and Canada researched different options to support existing efforts and improve border security between ports of entry. This led to a pilot project intended to increase police presence, evaluate criminal trends and enhance our response capabilities at the border.

In May 2010, a project was implemented by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police with its partners in the Lacolle area, the Canada Border Services Agency and the Sûreté du Québec. The purpose of this project is to increase police presence at the border between Canada and the United States in an effort to prevent criminal activity. Public co-operation and the use of technology are key elements of this project.
